Doctor Gervais was born in St Louis, Missouri, from Haitian parents. She grew up in Montreal, Canada, and spent part of
her adolescent years in Paris, France.
She moved back to Canada where she earned degrees in Biology (1992) and Exercise Science (1994) from Concordia University. Searching for her roots, she went to Medical School in Haiti where she met her future husband, Dr. Herold Merisier. Doctor Gervais graduated from medical school in 1991.S he then traveled to France to pursue additional studies in epidemiology and public heath. The family moved back to the US in 1995 and settled in Miami. Doctor Gervais completed a residency in Family Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami where she finished her training as the chief resident. She then started seeing patients at Jefferson Reaves clinic in Overtown (2000-02) and later at the Center for Haitian Studies, a free clinic for the poor in Little Haiti (2002-06). She is currently the Medical Director at Miami Edison Senior High School clinic where she provides culturally competent, compassionate care to the student body and envisions in the near future to care for the parents. Doctor Gervais is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Association of Haitian Physicians abroad (AMHE) as well as the Haitian American Leadership Organization (HALO). Doctor Gervais is a wife and a mother of two daughters; the family currently lives in west Miramar. |
