Nashley Harrigan is a second year medical student at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She graduated
from the University of Florida with a degree in Microbiology and Cell Science. She is currently president of the Student
National Medical Association as well as the president of Caneshare, an organization that arranges medical mission trips
to Thomande, Haiti. Caneshare, works in conjunction with Project Medishare; it is unique because it created a medical
facility that is available year round to Haitians who seek medical attention and helps to train medical personnel.
As a student and future physician, Nashley wants to do her part in ensuring that every person, regardless of socio-economic status, has access to good, quality health care. She has participated in many medical trips to Haiti and Nicaragua. She thinks that medical trips are a unique part of medical education because as a student you get to refine your medical skills and also observe health care systems in different countries. She is also part of the Women’s Health pathway, which focuses on the health concerns and disparities of women. Nashley is currently doing research on STDs and minority women and routinely volunteers at the Department of Health STD clinic. |
