Born and raised in Miami, FL, Irwine Sainvil has always valued the need for education and giving back to the community.
For such reasons, she attended the University of South Florida where she majored in Biomedical Sciences and earned a
minor in Public Health with an ambition to obtain a career in dental public health.
As an undergraduate, she became highly involved in volunteer and extracurricular activities to help strengthen her character and her motives to want to continue targeting underprivileged minorities in the community who have limited access to healthcare. For example, she gathered several universities to contribute to the major health concerns currently occurring within the Haitian community, such as HIV/AIDS, high cholesterol, nutrition, and diabetes. While balancing these activities as well with a heavy school load, she managed to work two jobs as a tutor for at risk first graders and as a research assistant in the immunology department at a cancer center. As her interest for research grew, she entered into the accelerated master’s in Medical Sciences with a concentration on Molecular Medicine in which she found her focus to be geared towards the HIV/AIDS epidemic. She is now employed as a Research Associate at the University Of Miami College Of Medicine working on the development of HIV vaccines. Her long term goals not only include obtaining a D.D.S/M.P.H. degree, but to also establish her own health awareness program and monthly health fairs in Haiti as well as within the minority population of her hometown. In essence, it is by her faith in God that increases her perseverance and determination and for that reason, she lives by Philippians 4:13, "All things are possible through Christ who strengthens me." |
